SGA (Sustainable Gardening Australia) is a not-for-profit, non-government organisation whose mission is to promote the benefits of sustainable horticulture.

SGA is expanding our community based initiatives and have received an amazing response to our POD program which is allowing gardeners to take a positive and active approach to tackling climate change. At the moment we have about 20 PODs up and running and we'd like 100 by this time next year. It's our mission to connect people all over Australia not only in their local community but also through the larger SGA community.

All this and we're still advocating for independently set standards within the gardening industry to fight green wash.

To date, in a very short time-frame SGA has:
•    Been a Finalist in the 2008 Premier's Sustainability Award (Community) for outstanding environmental achievement.
•    Created a free dynamic website (www.sgaonline.org.au) that gets over 30,000 unique hits per month educating and inspiring people on the 'how' of sustainable gardening.
•    Provided a free monthly electronic magazine of advice, example and inspiration to more than 5,000 gardeners.
•    Started a program of community garden PODs (garden groups)
•    Is developing a volunteer program where enthusastic volunteers can make a meaningful contribution to sustainable gardening.
•    Created a free interactive online forum that connects people and creates a gardening community that cares and shares.
•    Developed and delivered more than 250 community training events to home gardeners.
Distributed more than 300,000 Sustainable Gardening booklets distributed through local councils.
•    Participated in more than 60 community events and festivals providing education and advice to community  - and encouraging children to get their hands dirty!
•    Contributed to credible sustainable gardening industry standards with a voluntary environmental certification scheme for garden centres, which has resulted in over 80 businesses across Australia becoming SGA Sustainable Garden Centres, and a voluntary environmental certification for Landscape Professionals which provides a framework for creating sustainable landscapes and educating their clients.
•    Delivered sustainable gardening training to more than 2,000 landscape professionals providing them with the skill and knowledge to influence their clients.
•    Developed the first 2 of a series of practical garden books
•    And more……
